Training your brain to think positive? How do you go about that? Is that even possible?
Neuroscience has shown that it is very much possible.
Your Brain’s Negative Bias
What you have to understand is that by default, your brain actually looks more for negative information than for positive information. And this is not a bad thing at all.
What’s your brain’s number one job?
Is it to make you happy?
To make you smart?
To make you successful?
To make you strong?
None of these.
Your brain’s highest priority is keeping you alive. If you’re not alive, all the other things don’t matter.
And in order to keep you alive, it needs to protect you from things that could kill you. That’s why your brain is paying more attention to negative information than to positive. That’s why your brain is always on the lookout for things that could harm you, poison you, attack you, bite you, hurt you, catch you, hit you…
So there are good reasons for paying attention to negative things.
At the same time, in the times we live in thinking positive has more benefits for you than ever before. It can be the foundation upon which financial abundance, health and fulfilling relationships are built.
So how do we go about training your brain to think positive?
Just pay attention to your current sensations. What is it that your senses tell you about your current environment?
What do you see, hear, feel, taste and smell right now?
Mindfulness is the foundation on which you want to build positive thinking, so that you’re present and firmly rooted in reality.
Gratitude is a powerful way of training your brain to think positive, because it focuses your conscious attention on the good things in your life.
You can simply write down three things at the end of each day that you are grateful for. This will condition your brain to look out for positive things, because feeling grateful reinforces positivity.
Positive affirmations are a supplemental measure you can take if you want to invite more positive thoughts into your life. But do keep in mind that affirmations are the long and hard road to optimism. In order to get results, you need to repeat these affirmations thousands and thousands of times in the right state of mind.
Use Your Subconscious Mind Power
Much of what happens inside your brain that makes you think either positive or negative happens on a subconscious level.
That’s why using a self hypnosis download to train your brain to think positive is such a powerful way of “reprogramming your brain defaults”.
Instead of having to spend hours every day for months and months of making a conscious effort to think more positive, you can simply listen to a hypnosis download before you go to sleep, and your thought patterns will change automatically.
Remember that you won’t see a sudden change overnight. It really is a process, pretty much like going to the gym – regular practice will yield the best results.
So a lot of this is really about a) your determination: do you really want it? and b) your methods: how effective is what you’re trying?
