Hypnosis For Children

by Bob Walsh

Now a lot of people thing that it’s wrong to use hypnosis for children. This belief is mainly based on the idea that hypnosis is a manipulative psychological technique. So let’s take five minutes to really understand what hypnosis is, what benefits there are and how safe it is to use with children.

First of all, understand that hypnosis is simply a form of communication.

The difference between hypnosis and our everyday communication is that when we use hypnosis, we use very specific languge which directly addresses the subconscious mind of a listener with a clearly defined purpose.

Now when it comes to using hypnosis with children, the best way to go about it is by telling engaging stories.

You see stories are an ideal medium for hypnosis, because they captivate the attention of the listener and usually contain a message or lesson which is not explicitly stated, but implicitly communicated.

You can’t expect a kid to listen to a hypnosis download for adults – they probably won’t be attentive and quiet enough, because they usually are too interested in their surroundings.

However, when you use hypnotic stories then you will see why children are usually excellent hypnotic subjects – because they are able to really dive into this fantasy world and experience the story not just as something that’s being told to them, but as though they’d be part of the story, experiencing it themselves.

As adults, many of us tend to think fondly of our childhood days. But when you talk with kids you will find that they often perceive their lifes to be filled with struggled and challenges and all kinds of problems that might not seem significant when looking at them through the eyes of an adult, but feel very significant to your child. And we know from the field of psychology that the experiences you had early on in life, and how you interpreted these experiences are some of the defining cornerstones of your personality.

Many children struggle with issues of self confidence, and hypnosis is a great way to help them become more confident. And if you want to help your child to overcome the fear of darkness, this works very well with a simple story-based hypnosis download too.

The great hypnotherapist Milton H. Erickson used to work with parents and their children quiet a lot, many times for kids who were still wetting their bed or sucking their thumb – and he demonstrated that hypnosis can be very effective at overcoming these problems. The hypnosis downloads we recommend are all based on Ericksonian hypnotherapy, and they are crafted and spoken by professional, licensed hypnotherapists with more than 15 years of experience practicing hypnotherapy in the UK.

If you want you don’t have to use prerecorded hypnosis sessions spoken by other people, but you can also read a hypnosis script to your child yourself. This can be beneficial because the child is already familiar with the sound of your voice, but you should still listen to the hypnosis session so that you use the right intonation patterns when reading to your child.

I surely don’t want my child hypnotized. I think it’s unethical and manipulative. What kind of parents do such a thing?

Hi Erika,
thank you for sharing your opinion.
I do agree that it’s manipulative, but I don’t agree that it’s unethical. It would be unethical if you manipulate your kids negatively. However, as a parent your job is to influence your child in good ways and help him or her to prosper in life. Hypnosis is not about brainwashing your child to be a lawyer (or whatever your favorite chosen profession of choice) or to program your child to be a well-behaved robot, but about empowering your child. Just check out the hypnosis downloads for kids on the site that I link too and you’ll see what I mean :-)
All the best to you and your kids,
Bob

Ok. I looked at it and listened to the sample, and this does seem fine for kids. Almost sounds like achildrens audiobook.
