Do you want to know how to care less? Care less about what others think? Care less about what they say? Or care less about someone that you just care way too much about?
Learning to care less does not mean that you become emotionally cold. It doesn’t mean that you’ll be distant from other people. It just means that you’ll have the choice how much you want to care or not care. It means that you do not depend on someone else if you don’t want to.
Most of the time people really do not think nearly as much about you as you think about what they think about. Most of the time, people think about themselves.
And think about it. Do you really want other people’s thoughts to have power over you?
Do you really want to depend on some kind of “thought approval” in order for yourself to feel comfortable?
What does it matter what other people think? History has shown that so many people are wrong so much of the time.
There are so many people who did things that others thought would be impossible.
Think about it. Apple is now one of the most famous companies in the world. But when they were starting out, when they built their first computers, they would have given their invention to Atari or HP, just for becoming employees of their companies. But those companies did not care. They thought Steve Jobs and Wozniak didn’t had anything interesting. Well, Atari is a gone company now, and HP surely would appreciate the profits of Apple.
The guy who founded FedEx was told that his business plan was impossible. But he made it happen, despite what “experts” and other people thought. And now it’s a multi-billion dollar business.
There are so many people who did things despite what others thought about them. Think about famous people – sure, they got fame and wealth, but how much gossip is out there about them that is not true? Imagine if they would care too much about what other people think of them – they just couldn’t handle it.
So you have to find out how to care less.
There are many ways to do so. You can just confront people with what you think they think about you, and get things out of the way and set the record straight. But that can be a difficult way to go, and sometimes it can even backfire. Because in general, people like to think what they like to thin anyway.
So maybe you just need to care more about what you think, so that what other people think is not as relevant anymore. What do you think? What do you want? What do you care about? What is important to you? That’s what you should focus on. Because that is what you will get in your life.
It’s not about being selfish. It is about living your own life on your own terms, and being free from the feeling that you have to be “accepted”, being free from the need of approval and becoming a more mature and happy person.
